Academic Support Programs and Strategies

Classroom- Based Strategies

Based on my observation, the teacher continually monitors each student’s progress. If she notices that a student is being left behind, she makes sure that the student will be able to catch up by constantly giving more concrete examples. The student’s improvement is being monitored through a variety of activities that would keep their attention. Paper and pencil tests are not often used.

After- Class Strategies

The school provides an area in each floor of the building where they can freely read. However, reading after class hours or during break time is not compulsory. The area is provided to those students who wish to read books.

Need- Based Support

Another thing that really caught my attention during my first day of observation was that the school practices inclusive education. The students with specials need are being included in all classroom activities as well as focusing on the student’s specific needs. The typical students are also very accommodating to their classmates with special needs.

Technology- Assisted Strategies

One thing that surely impressed me was that the school has a high-speed internet connection. There is also computers, projectors, speakers, microphones, etc. in each classroom where students and teachers can freely use for classroom discussion purposes. They also have computer rooms and laboratory rooms where students can use for educational purposes.

School- Based Strategies

Learning experiences of students are not only limited within the classrooms. Teachers provide opportunities for students to learn from their peers. An example of this strategy is the Little Teachers’ Day. During this event, the Prathom 6 or Grade 6 pupils are tasked to teach the lower grade levels. The teachers will just assign the topics that they will discuss. The students will then independently make the instructional materials that they will be needing and get to decide on how they are going to teach. The teachers does not mind their task. They will just sit and watch the students as they comfortably discuss among them.
