Thailand's General Curriculum
Curriculum Practical of Compulsory Education Usage BC 2544 (2001)
The guideline of Learning Essence will be guided as the following;
Period 1-3 (Prathom Suksa 1- Mattayom Suksa 3: Grade 1-9)
There are eight Learning Essence groups namely;

The school must provide all of eight groups of learning essence for its students in each year but it is not necessary to study all at the first time. Actually, the students must have to finish studying with all of eight Learning essence groups and fulfill with the standard knowledge and competence as the required curriculum at the end of the period.
Period 4 (Mattayom Suksa 4-6: Grade 10-12)
The school must not provide all of eight groups of learning essence for the students in each semester and it is not necessary to study all at the first time. Actually, the students must finish studying with all of eight Learning essence groups and fulfill with the standard knowledge and competence as the required curriculum at the end of the period.

Why learn Thai?
Thai language is a national identity, a cultural property that creates unity and enhances the personality of the nation to be Thai. It is a communication tool for understanding and good relationships thus enables to engage in business activities and live together in a democratic society in peace. It is a tool to seek knowledge and experience from various information sources to develop thinking process, analyze, criticize and create and to keep pace with social change and advances in science, technology and use in career development for economic stability. It is also a media showing the wisdom of ancestors in culture, traditions and aesthetics. It is a precious treasure to learn, conserve and continue to remain in Thai nationals forever.
What to learn in Thai
Thai language is a skill that requires training to become proficient in using language for communication effective learning and to use in real life.

Reading - reading, pronunciation, words, sentences, reading prose, various kinds of compositions, reading with the heart to create understanding and analytical thinking, synthesize knowledge from what is read to be used in everyday life.

Writing- spelling according to orthography communication writing by using various words and forms of writing, including writing essays, briefing on various types of reports, writing according to imagination, criticism and creative writing.

Listening, watching and speaking - listening and watching with critical thinking. Speaking, expressing opinions, feeling, sequence, stories. Reasonably speaking on various occasions both formal and informal and persuasive speech.

Principles of Thai language - Nature and rules of Thai language. The correct use of language is appropriate for the occasion and person. Composing various types of compositions and the influence of foreign languages in Thai.

Literature - Analyze literature and literature to study information, ideas, values of literary works and enjoyment Learning and understanding the script in children's play lyrics, folk songs that are valuable wisdom of Thailand which convey feelings, values, traditions and stories of society in the past and the beauty of the language for the appreciation and pride in the ancestors that have inherited to date.
Learning Content and Standards
Subject 1 Reading
Standard A.1.1 Use the reading process to create knowledge and ideas for decision making. Solve problems in life and have a habit of reading.
Subject 2 Writing
Standard II 2.1 Use the writing process to communicate. Write essays, summarize and write stories in various forms. Write reports, information and research reports effectively.
Topic 3 Listening, watching and speaking
Standard 3.1 can choose to listen and watch with discretion and speak to express knowledge, thoughts and feelings on various occasions both critical and creative.
Topic 4: Principles of Thai language
Standard 4 4.1 Understand the nature of the language and principles of Thai language change and language power, language wisdom and preserve Thai language as a national treasure.
Topic 5: Literature
Standards 5.1 Understand and express opinions critically criticizing literature and Thai literature and applying it in real life.
Learner Quality
Finishing grade 3

Read aloud words, rhyming words, short stories and simple verse. Can be accurate, fluent. Understand the meaning of words and texts that are read. Questioning reasoning, predict events, summarize knowledge, insights from the stories that are read. Follow orders, explanations from stories. Understand the meaning of data from diagrams, maps and charts. Read books regularly and have reading etiquette.

With skill in calligraphy, full lines, writing lectures, daily notes. Write a letter to the teacher. Write about experiences. Write stories based on imagination and have etiquette in writing.

Tell details and tell the essence, ask questions, answer questions, and speak, express thoughts, feelings about the story and listen. Speak, communicate, share experiences and talk or speak to invite others to follow and have etiquette to listen to see and speak.

Spell words and understand the meaning of words. Differences of words and syllables, functions of words in sentences, skills in using dictionaries to find the meaning of words. Compose simple sentences, create words, rhyme, create slogans and choose the standard Thai language and dialect suitable for the time.

Understand and be able to summarize the ideas obtained from reading literature and literature for use in everyday life. Comment from the literature that is read. Know folk songs and lullaby which is a local culture. Singing lyrics for local children, memorize prayers and verses that has value according to interest.
Finishing grade 6

Read aloud the correct prose and verse. Explain the direct meaning and implication of words, sentences, texts, rhetoric from the story read. Understand the advice, explanations in various manuals, distinguish ideas and facts. As well as capturing the importance of the stories that are read and bringing the knowledge and ideas from the stories that are read to decide to solve problems in life. Have manners and have a habit of reading and appreciate what is read.

With skill in calligraphy, full lines and half lines, writing spelling, writing sentences and writing messages. As well as writing and communicating using appropriate clear words, using diagrams, story line and thought diagrams. To develop writing, write a personal essay, fill out various forms, write, express feelings and opinions, write stories based on creative imagination and have writing etiquette.

Speak knowledge about the story and listening. Tell a short story or a summary from the listener and watch, ask questions, answer questions from the listener and watch. Including evaluating the credibility of listening and watching the ads reasonably. Speaking according to the sequence of steps, clear stories, speaking reports or issues, researching from listening, watching conversations and convincingly speaking. Including having etiquette to watch and speak.

Spell words and understand the meaning of words, idioms, proverbs and proverbs. Know and understand the types and functions of words in sentences, type of sentence and foreign words in Thai language, using the royal words and the words of the word appropriately.
